Eisleben Road Primary
Eisleben Road Primary had had the vision to introduce computer technology to their learners a few years ago and had established their own computer laboratory. Khanya has recognised their commitment and has supplied the school with an additional laboratory.
Educators at this school are well trained and have taken ownership of both laboratories. The Cami software is used extensively, and to great effect, and the LAN administrators are very competent in training the educators regularly as the software is upgraded. Access to the internet in the laboratory is a great tool to support curriculum delivery and learners and educators at Eisleben Road Primary are comfortable users of both the Internet and e-mail.
Some educators have taken technology one step further and have completed advanced computer courses such as the ICDL and they are always prepared to take on any new challenges. Skills learnt at a course such as this one are quickly passed on to the rest of the staff, thereby improving the efficient running of the school.
All grades access the two laboratories according to a set timetable: the school’s own technology laboratory is mostly used for computer literacy training and is available to learners after school hours and the Khanya laboratory is used for curriculum delivery.
Community involvement has always been part of the school’s plans and they have successfully kept the interest of the community alive by offering computer literacy classes to parents in the community at a minimal rate. All the Khanya modules are used and they have enjoyed a high rate of success.
